This boutique resort in Ubud is situated on a very steep and unique site that begins in a rice padi field and cascades down to the beautiful Ayung River gorge.
Inspired by a local legend, the design is centered around a majestic lychee tree, where key components of the resort are organized in a very dramatic manner.
The terracing that is carried out throughout the main building mimics the horizontal layering of the padi fields, allowing the guest suites on one side to blend in with the padi fields, and the villas on the cascade to nestle into the densely wooded valley.
To minimize the impact on the steep site and surrounding trees, the design elevates the villas and uses a series of vertical frames to define special environments, such as the living room/daybed nook, the bedroom deck and the rooftop pool terrace.
